Projects in the Community Pera Pedi

Within the efforts to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants the Community Council of Pera Pedi has executed and planned to execute some embellishment and infrastructure projects.

Some of the most important and serious projects which have been done are the following:

1. A Community Hall was constructed in 1990-92 in the area of the old Open Market of the village and which has helped the improvement of the community services offered to the inhabitants.
2. The entire water supply system was replaced in 1992-94.
3. Excavation and development of two drillings in 1992-94 which have helped the residential development of the community.
4. Construction of a pedestrian zone which unites the old village with the new settlement.
5. Construction of a stone made road in the centre of the old village.
6. Restoration of the traditional water mill of the community in 1998-2000.
7. New garbage trucks were bought and they were manned.
8. Improvement of the entire road network and construction of flood preventing projects which ensure the smooth flow of rain water.
9. Construction and development of many green spaces and many other embellishment projects.

Some of the projects which are planned to be done and it is expected to be completed soon are the following:

1. Construction of a big park which will include a playground, nature trails, green spaces, amphitheatre and public toilettes.
2. Construction of parking place which will improve traffic problems in the area “Stathmos”.
3. Alteration of the old Elementary School of the community to a Folklore Art Museum as well as improvement of the surrounding spaces.

The community council also plans to execute some further projects in the next few years:

1. Restoration of the traditional center of the old village in order to obtain its previous style.
2. Construction of a building for events, seminars etc.
3. Creation of a nature trail along the “Krios Potamos” (river) and exploitation of the old bridge which was built during the Turkish occupation.
4. Replacement of the water transport system which is placed Troodos and was firstly constructed around 1950.
